The strong sense of regional identify and commitment to preserving many of its traditions that exhibit its national culture, are perhaps stronger in France than elsewhere in Europe. This is a country whose sheer physical diversity combined with a plethora of villages, towns and cities each with their own unique character, make France the most visited country in the world. In fact, more than 80 million people head there each year – not bad for a country with a population of 64.5 million people. It’s not just holidaymakers who are attracted to France. Those looking for new career opportunities from overseas are too, but you may need to brush up on your French before you apply to work there. Indeed, while there are jobs to be had, your ability to speak rudimentary French at the very least will give you a better change of securing employment. For most jobs, it is a pre-requisite - especially those working with multinational or major national employers. Despite unemployment levels in France traditionally being among the highest in Europe, France’s economy remains the third largest in Europe, with demand increasing for overseas workers across a number of sectors. Management skills are in particular demand, with the highest number of employment opportunities for overseas workers to be found in the engineering (aerospace), banking and finance, food and drink, IT and tourism sectors.
